Gerd Müller, nicknamed “Bomber der Nation ” (“the nation’s Bomber”) or simply ” Der Bomber “, is a German retired footballer. He was renowned for his clinical finishing, especially in and around the six-yard box. As well as he is regarded as one of the greatest goalscorers of all time. Muller scored 68 goals in 62 appearances for West Germany at international and he scored a record 365 goals in 427 Bundesliga games and an international record of 66 goals in 74 European club games.

 

Gerd Müller is now 12th on the list of all time international goalscorers. Although playing fewer matches than every other player in the top 25. He is one of the greatest footballers of all time. Among the top scorers, he has the third-highest goal-to-game ratio. Not only that but he has an average of more than a goal in a game. Müller was named European Footballer of the Year in 1970.

Since scoring 10 goals in 1970 FIFA World Cup, he received the Golden Boot as top goal scorer. Moreover, Muller scored four goals including a winning goal of the final at 1974 FIFA World Cup. He was ranked ninth in the European player of the Century and 13th in World Player of the Century. Muller is also in the FIFA 100 list of world greatest living player. He ended his illustrious career with 723 goals.

Alfredo di Stefano

Alfredo Di Stefano is one of the greatest footballers of all time and played for three countries; Argentina, Colombia and Spain. But he mostly played for Spain and he is best known for his achievement with Real Madrid. Nicknamed “Saeta Rubia” (“Blond Arrow”), Stefano was a powerful, quick, skillful, and prolific forward, with great stamina, tactical versatility, creativity, and vision, who could also play almost anywhere on the pitch. He is the sixth highest scorer in the history of Spain’s top division. Stefano is also third highest league goalscorer of all time for Real Madrid, with 216 goals in 282 league matches.

To celebrate UEFA’s Jubilee, he was selected as the Golden Player of Spain by the Royal Spanish Football Federation as their most outstanding player of the past 50 years. Also he was named by Pelé in the FIFA 100 list of the world’s greatest living players. Stefano was voted fourth, behind Pelé, Diego Maradona, and Johan Cruyff, in a vote organized by France Football magazine. He is four times Spanish player of the year, received two times Ballon d’Or. And hence also received the Golden Foot as the football legend.

Franz Beckenbauer was a German professional footballer and was nicknamed Der Kaiser (The Emperor) due to his commanding attitude on-field. Beckenbauer led West Germany to victory at the 1972 Euros and the 1974 World Cup. Also led Bayern Munich to three European Cups and four Bundesliga titles. And as well as the all-star New York Cosmos to three Soccer Bowls.

He is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers in the history of football. Twice named European Footballer of the Year, Beckenbauer appeared 103 times for West Germany and played in three FIFA World Cups. He was the first captain to lift the World Cup and European Championship at international level and the European Cup at club level too.

Beckenbauer was named in the World Team of the 20th Century in 1998, the FIFA World Cup Dream Team in 2002, and in 2004 was listed in the FIFA 100.  Of course that’s why he is regarded as the best German football player of all times. Beckenbauer was a versatile player with the best soccer skills. He was also inducted into the U.S. National Soccer Hall of Fame.

Ronaldo, a Brazilian footballer, popularly dubbed “O Fenômeno” (The Phenomenon), he is widely considered to be one of the greatest footballers of all time. He is three-time FIFA World Player of the Year and has received two-time Ballon d’Or. Ronaldo was known for his dribbling at speed, feints, and clinical finishing. He was named in the FIFA 100 and was inducted into the Brazilian Football Museum Hall of Fame and as well as the Italian Football Hall of Fame.

Ronaldo played 98 matches, scoring 62 goals and is the second-highest goalscorer for his national team,  after Pelé. Ronaldo, at the age of 19, was the youngest member of the Brazilian squad that won the 1994 FIFA World Cup. At the 1998 World Cup, he received the Golden Ball for a player of the tournament in helping Brazil reach the final. He won a second World Cup in 2002 where he scored twice in the final, and also received the Golden Boot as tournament’s top goalscorer.

Ronaldo made a world record by scoring 15th World Cup goal in 2006 World Cup. After Diego Maradona, he is the second player to break the world record transfer fee twice. He scored over 200 goals for club and country. He retired due to injuries in 2011.

Zinedine Zidane was a French footballer and played as attacking midfielder for the France National, Juventus, Real Madrid and other. He was well renowned for his elegance, vision, ball control and technique. He has also been named as the best European footballer of the past 50 years in the UEFA Golden Jubilee Poll. Zidane is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time.

His left-foot volleyed win in the UEFA Champions League Final is one of the greatest goals in the competition’s history. Zidane won the 1998 FIFA World Cup, scoring twice in the final. He  also won UEFA Euro 2000 where he was named Player of the Tournament. He was named in the FIFA World Player of the Year three times and won the 1998 Ballon d’Or. Zidane was Ligue 1 Player of the Year in 1996, Serie A Footballer of the Year in 2001. As well as La Liga Best Foreign Player in 2002.

In 2004, he was named in the FIFA 100, a list of the world’s greatest living players compiled by Pelé. Zidane also received the Golden Ball for a player of the tournament at the 2006 World Cup.

Johan Cruyff

Johan Cruyff was a Dutch professional footballer who won the Ballon d’Or three times. He has been regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time as he led the Dutch football team to rose to become a power house in the sport as Netherlands reached final of 1974 World Cup.

Cruyff received the Golden Ball as the player of the tournament. Not only voted as European Player of the Century but also came second behind Pelé in World Player of the Century. As well as he came third in the Football Player of the Century. He has also been chosen in the World Team of the 20th Century in 1998, the FIFA World Cup Dream Team in 2002. And he has also been named in the FIFA 100 list of the world’s greatest living players. His playing styles can be considered inspirational and he is certainly one of the most influential players in football history.

Cristiano Ronaldo is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays as a forward for Spanish club Real Madrid and the Portugal National team. Often considered the best player in the world and regarded by many as one of the greatest footballers of all time. Ronaldo is the first European player to have four FIFA Ballon d’Or awards, also the first player in history to win four European Golden Shoes.

He has won 22 trophies in his career, including five league titles, four UEFA Champions League titles and one UEFA European Championship. He holds the record for most official goals scored in top 5 European leagues (369 goals), the UEFA Champions League (105 goals), the UEFA European Championship (29 goals). Ronaldo has also recorded for the most goals scored in a UEFA Champions League season (17 goals). He has scored more than 600 senior career goals for club and country.

Lionel Messi

Messi is an Argentine professional football player who plays as forward for Spanish club Barcelona and the Argentina National.  Often considered the best player in the world and regarded by many as the greatest footballers of all time, Messi is the only player in history to win five FIFA Ballon d’Or awards.

He has won 29 trophies with Barcelona, including eight La Liga titles, four UEFA Champions League titles, and five Copas del Rey. Lionel Messi has won a record seven World Soccer awards. Four times Player of the Year and three times Young Player of the Year.

Messi also holds the record for the most official goals scored in La Liga (349 goals), a La Liga season (50 goals), a club football season in Europe (73 goals), a calendar year (91 goals), and a most assist made in La Liga (137 goals) and the Copa America (11 goals). He has scored more than 500 senior career goals for club and country. Messi is the all time top scorer for Barcelona in official competitions.

Here the list of greatest footballers of all time would be incomplete without the name of Maradona. Maradona is regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time by many writers, players, and fans.

Diego Maradona, renowned for his dribbling ability, vision, close ball control, passing, and creativity, also considered one of the most skillful players ever. Maradona was joint FIFA Player of the 20th Century with Pelé. He was the first player in the history, to set the world record transfer fee twice.

Maradona is infamous for “Hand of God” goal against England in World Cup. As well as his second goal against England in the same match  has been voted as the Greatest Goal in the History of World Cup by FIFA and also voted for “Goal of the Century”. He won the World Cup Tournament for Argentina and Golden Ball for the Best Player of the Tournament. The 1994 World Cup signaled the end of his international career with the failed drug test, which had lasted 17 years and scored 34 goals from 91 games.

Pelé

Surely, Pelé is the No. 1 in the list of greatest footballers of all time. Pelé, a Brazilian footballer, is widely known as the Greatest Footballer of All Time. He was voted World Player of the Century, Football Player of the Century and Athlete of the Century.

Pelé scored 1281 goals in 1363 games, which included unofficial friendlies and tour games make him most successful league goal scorer of all time. He was also listed in the Guinness World Records for maximum career goals. During his playing days, Pelé was for a period the best-paid athlete in the world.

During his career, he became known as “The Black Pearl” ( A Pérola Negra ), “The King of Football” (O Rei do Futebol), “The King Pelé” (O Rei Pelé). Pelé started playing for Santos at age 15 and the Brazil national football team at 16. He is the only player in the world to win three FIFA World Cups: 1958, 1962 and 1970. Pelé scored 77 goals in 92 games for his national team, which makes him all time leading goal scorer for Brazil.
