Farwestern region is 460 Km far from the Capital of Nepal, Kathmandu and has been able to maintain the meaning of Nepal as Tapoban, which means the forest for meditation. Far western Region has the geography same as its country, which includes Himalayas, Hills, and Terai plane, it’s now the only state in the country to have all geographical regions. So visiting the Farwest region only, one can feel visited the whole country. Farwest doesn’t have any recognized adventurous tourist spot but visiting far-west itself is an adventure for nature’s raw adventure lover.

#1 Khaptad National Park

Khaptad National Park

It is at the center of Far-western Development Region and stretches over 4 districts, Doti, Achham, Bajhang, Bajura. It’s difficult journey to reach its different fabulous places which covers an area of 225 km².

The place is also well renowned for the Khaptad Baba Ashram of the holy man Khaptad Baba, who spent 50 years as hermit to meditate in this region. The Park is rich in natural beauty and renowned for rare species of animals and herbs. The park is mostly tourist hub for trekking.

It has 22 large meadows which surely will be a pleasing scenery to view live. You will view moorland, steep slopes, streams, forest and it will be a lifetime experiencing visiting this National Park.

#2 Shuklaphanta National Park

The National park was previously a hunting reserve, then a wildlife reserve now it has gained the status of a National Park and it’s the youngest National park of Nepal, located in Kanchanpur district. It is famous for the World largest single herd of Deer. The Park is also famous for its conservation and protection of tigers.

The main attraction for tourist is the Jungle Safari and elephant safari and also can view swamp deer’s largest herd in this region by sitting on the back of elephants. Park is also famous for One Horned Rhinoceros.

#3 Ugratara Temple

Ugratara Temple

The famous Hindu shrine of Ugratara is one of the Shakti Peeth of Devi in far western Region of Nepal. It is a divine place and a religious and cultural heritage of the region. It is located in Dadeldhura district.

It is one of the famous sacred places for Hindus to visit and for pilgrimage. Ugratara Mata Temple (Mother Goddess Ugratara) is strongly believed to fulfill the good wishes of her worshippers.

#4 Api and Saipal

We all know Nepal is the country of Himalayas but far-western Region doesn’t have any eight-thousander but it has two high mountains Api (7132m) and Saipal (7031m). The Mt. Api lies in Darchula district and Saipal in Bajhang.

The trek to these regions is a lifetime experience to see the real unspoiled Nepal with the spectacular views of the mountain with the unseen culture of hilly Nepal. The breathtaking and unseen beauty of nature is also not visited by most of the tourist but it is something really to see in a lifetime if you’re an adventure lover.

#5 Amargadhi Fort

The fort from which the brave Gurkhali army fought against British East India company. It is named after the great warrior of Nepal Amar Singh Thapa who fought bravely against British from this fort. The fort has historical importance as it was constructed during the time of the unification of Nepal.

Dadeldhura district which is also known as Queen of hills has a climate similar to Mediterranean region, so the British wanted to capture the region to create it as a hill station for the British general who was in East India company. But the brave Nepali soldiers fought against the British and saved the region without advanced weapons as of British.

#6 BadiMalika Temple

The BadiMalika Temple is another Shakti Peet located in this region. The Kalika Devi is worshipped in this Temple.

It is located in Bajura district at 4200m high at top of the hillock and also the journey to the temple is really a difficult one, many people die due to altitude sickness in the journey. Only possible way to reach to the temple is by one or more days trek from Martadi, headquarter of Bajura district.

In winter due to snowfall, it is closed but two fairs are held every year in the Temple. The trek to the BadiMalika Temple is a famous adventure for tourist and thousands of devotees and worshippers visits the temple during the fairs (mela).

#7 Ramaroshan Area

The Ramaroshan Area is the best place to know the power of scenic beauty of nature, it will be a truly mesmerizing and hypnotic experience.

It is the main attraction of Achham district, situated at the altitude of about 2500m and covering the area of 2500m².The area is well known as the area of 12 lakes and 18 meadows (Patan) and the most enchanting view of Ramaroshan lake surrounded by terraced hills is the most attractive part.

The total area of Ramaroshan is surrounded by forest and on the way, you can see the beautiful red hilly forests of Rhododendron and may also view and listen the sounds of Lophophorous, Peasants, Cocoo, etc and animals like Musk Deer, Tiger, bear, etc.

#8 Tikapur Park

Tikapur park is located in Kailali district which is famous for its natural beauty and geographical location. The Karnali river passes through the park and is famous for Rafting. Park was made by King Mahendra as a pleasant and silent rest place. So it’s also famous as “The Rest Place”.

The park provides natural, pleasant and cool environment surrounded by trees, rivers, and silence from the noise and free from pollution of the city. It’s truly a place for recreation and good for health to visit. The park is also famous for the near banana cafe which provides an opportunity to taste many dishes made with bananas and even wine made of banana too.
